Epperson Ranches
is owned and operated by William Epperson, a descendant of pioneer
Edwards County ranchers. His family began free-range ranching
here in the early 1880's, then homesteading and purchasing land
which is still family owned and operated well over 100 years
later. William's wife, Marcy, is also a descendant of very early
ranching settlers to this area. Her family first arrived by ox-drawn
wagon in the late 1870's when Indian raids were still taking
place, and followed much of the same type of homesteading as
did William's family.
Terrain on the different
ranches varies from steep, rocky inclines to gently rolling flatlands
on top of the Edwards Plateau. As the name Rocksprings implies,
rocks are abundant-unfortunately, we don't have any of the springs!
Average annual rainfall to the area is about 22 inches, which,
of course, can vary greatly from year to year. As a result of
these changes, we constantly strive to maintain the land and
the animals in the best possible manner.
